Anger Trigger: Unexpected Losses

10/31/2014

Life can be quite unpredictable and unexpected losses can occur. You may lose a job and income, a friend, a cat or dog you love dearly, experience an illness and lose your sense of being strong and invincible, etc. Anger can be a first reaction because you prefer life to be predictable and you want to be in control. It's good to acknowledge your feelings and honor them. You can create more inner peace about your situation by accepting that you have limited control and come up with plans to cope.

I invite you to share your experiences with unexpected losses.

Thank You.

Anger Trigger: Broken Agreements

Anger Trigger: Broken Agreements

Agreements made should to be considered sacred because people need to trust that promises made are followed through. It is necessary for developing trust. When you can't keep an agreement, it's good to be honest and tell the person that you cannot follow through. You may get angry when agreements are not kept. You may feel: can I trust this person's word? Can I count on this person? When agreements are broken it is important to discuss the problem with the individual concerned and resolve the issue.
Sometimes broken agreements are more serious such as infidelity, continuing use of alcohol/drugs, gambling, or lying. If these issues cannot be resolved and persist and cause significant stress, professional help may be necessary

Anger Trigger: Feeling Overwhelmed

It's good to be productive and accomplish things. However, when your plate is too full you may get grumpy, irritated, and/or angry. You may feel: Don't ask me to do one more thing. When you feel like this, you have the right to step back, figure out how to lessen the demands and give yourself some breathing room. It will help you to be more peaceful and be better company.

I invite you to share your experiences with feeling overwhelmed.

Thank You.

Anger trigger expecting perfection

Aloha from Dr. Silke:

Anger Trigger: Expecting Perfection:

It's helpful if you strive to do your best. However, it can cause problems if you believe everyone should do their best, especially people close to you. If others make mistakes or are careless it can become a trigger for your anger and frustration. Being critical and putting others down can harm relationships. Being aware of this trigger, stepping back and calming down will help. It's important to learn patience with oneself and others and communicate your needs gently.

I invite you to share your experiences with the perfection trigger.

Thank you.

Tips to Manage Anger

10/2/2014

Aloha from Dr. Silke:

When your anger gets triggered practice being quiet and taking a time-out rather than reacting, arguing, and saying something you may regret later. You can also walk away from the situation to gain perspective. It takes practice to learn this skill but other people in your life will appreciate you more when you communicate respectfully.

I invite you to share your experiences managing anger.

Thank you.
